Pace died from COVID-19 complications Thursday night at the age of 44. Sheriff Berl Perdue is one of the many members in the community that is mourning Pace's sudden loss.

“To be quite honest with you I was shocked when I received the news last night and I'm sure the community's in shock too,” Perdue said.

Since 2019, Pace has served as the Judge Executive. Perdue says Pace was a respected man in the community.

“He had a positive impact, he's very fiscally responsible, he was a very nice person, always thought as far as fiscal court went that he was more of a mediator in trying to find common ground,” Perdue said.

The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Pace had been in quarantine and was admitted into the emergency room on Thursday, where he later passed away. Perdue says he worked with Pace on multiple occasions, and had a relationship with Pace and his family.

“We didn't always agree, you know, being the department head and the County Judge Executive, we didn't always agree, but we tried to find common ground. We had a very professional relationship and a very respectful relationship, and that is all you can ask for,” Perdue said.

The Clark County Clerk's office will appoint an interim Judge Exective.
