  • Facility-wide testing taking place at both Nazareth facilities

  • Some residets moved to hospitals for care

38 residents and 26 staff members of the Nazareth Home Clifton have tested positive for the disease. There were 82 residents tested and they have been taken to the hospital.  43 remain segregated in at the 101-bed facility.

With so many positive cases, Nazareth tranferred some of its residents to hospitals for treatment, because hospitals were better equipped to handle them. Others were moved because of reduced staffing because of positive test results and therefore they were staying at home.

Diane Curtis, Director of Communications for Nazareth, says they were the first facility in the state to prohibit all visitors back in March. It even had testing and tracking for residents showing symptoms. Curtis says they would segregate residents based on symptoms, if it came to that.

The Nazareth Home noticed many residents exhibiting symptoms that were not consistent with COVID-19, so it asked the state to come in and perform facility-wide testing. The results of those tests came back last Friday.

The state is providing 26 healthcare employees to work in the Nazareth Home Clifton. Curtis says they will likely get additional staff to care for residents who remain at the home and who are segregated. They are keeping those with symptoms seperate from those without symptoms or who have tested negative.

Nazareth Home's second location on Newburg Road, will receive facility-wide testing on June 1.
