BOWLING GREEN, Ky. —  Restaurants will be allowed to return to in-person dining on May 22 but at only 33% capacity. Governor Andy Beshear, D-KY, announced the plan Thursday. One restaurant ready to open is Anna’s Greek Restaurant in Bowling Green.

What You Need To Know

  • Governor reopens restaurants May 22

  • Limited capacity 33% indoors, unlimited with disancing outdoors

  • Part of Phase 2 of reopening state

The restaurant just opened its doors in December, just months before having to close again. Owner Vilson Qehaja quickly began using delivery apps like GrubHub and Door Dash, as well as providing carryout options to keep customers.

Now with a clear date for re-opening, Quehaja says social distancing will be easy to incorporate in the 15,000-square foot facility.

“I have such a huge space here that I can space people apart as much as needed and keep families apart so this way families can dine together without being so close to other families,” says Quehaja. The restaurant can hold around 300 guests, meaning the restaurant has the opportunity to serve 100 customers under the new regulations.

Along with social distance, the restaurant will also incorporate face masks and frequent handwashing guidelines.

The restaurant has been lucky and has managed to see some of its normal profits simply by offering curbside and delivery. Reservations are already coming in and Qehaja says he is ready.

“People have contacted me directly from our contact website form saying since we’re open May 22nd, I want a reservation May 23rd.”

With an increase of demand both online and in service, the local eatery will rehire furloughed staff and will look to hire additional help.

Qehaja looks forward to seeing and interacting with the community once again and is excited to incorporate new dishes and recipes for customers to try.

“I’m excited to get back to it and create new memories with people and tell myself I’ve overcame another challenge.”

You can find Anna’s Greek Restaurant at 1202 State Street in Bowling Green. The restaurant will continue offering carryout and delivery but recommends placing a reservation through its website or through the app Open Table before dining in.
