Although the month ended on a damp note, precipitation still ended up in a deficit for October for all of Kentucky.

What You Need To Know

  • It’s been more than a month since considerable rainfall

  • For most of Kentucky, it was a top 50 dry October

  • Drought conditions are worsening in the region

For most of the state, it took just about the entire month before any area received more than 0.10” of rain. In fact, for most locations, that lack of considerable rain goes all the way back to at least mid-September.

Despite two late October storm systems bringing decent rainfall amounts to Kentucky, it still ended up being a top 50 dry October on record for most of the Commonwealth. For a few locations, it was a top 25 driest month on record.

The result of this extremely dry stretch was the expansion and increase in severity of the ongoing drought in Kentucky.
