NATIONWIDE — Like most things in life, there are things that last and things that don’t. That includes passenger vehicles, most of which can be driven about 200,000 miles before being put out to pasture. But a handful of models are still going strong long after their odometers pass that mark.

Topping that list is the Toyota Sequoia, which has a potential lifespan of 296,509 miles, according to a new study from iSeeCars.com. The automotive research website analyzed more than 2 million cars to determine which last longest and found that 20 models are able to endure for more than 200,000 miles.

The Top 10

  1. Toyota Sequoia (296,509 miles)
  2. Toyota Land Cruiser (280,236 miles)
  3. Chevrolet Suburban (265,732)
  4. Toyota Tundra (256,022)
  5. GMC Yukon XL (252,360)
  6. Toyota Prius (250,601)
  7. Chevrolet Tahoe (250,338)
  8. Honda Ridgeline (248,669)
  9. Toyota Avalon (245,710)
  10. Toyota Highlander Hybrid (244,994)

“What we see is a list of highly durable vehicles, capable of more than a quarter-million miles of use if properly maintained,” said iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer. “And to be clear, this study isn’t reporting the maximum lifespan of these vehicles. This is simply a measure of current odometer readings. Most of these cars are still in use and going strong.”

SUVs and trucks made up 75% of the top 20 vehicles. Toyotas accounted for half. The Toyota Tundra (at 256,022 miles) topped the list of trucks with the greatest potential lifespans, followed by the Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Titan and Ford F-150.

The Toyota Sienna (at 239,607) was the longest-lasting minivan, followed by the Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan and Kia Sedona.

The Toyota Avalon (245,710) was the longest-lasting sedan, followed by the Chevrolet Impala, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Lexus GS 350. The Toyota Prius (250,601) was the longest-lasting hybrid, followed by the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lexus RX 450h and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

The Tesla Model S had the longest lifespan among electric vehicles at 133,998 miles, followed by the Nissan Leaf at 98,081.
