Hundreds of New York National Guard troops deployed to protect the U.S. Capitol are back at home.
Governor Cuomo announced Saturday 540 National Guard troops returned to the Empire State after spending nearly seven weeks in Washington, D.C.
They were deployed to D.C. on January 26 following the riot at the U.S. Capitol building earlier that month.
The troops remained in the area to help prevent any further attacks.
This comes just days after House lawmakers called for a measured reduction in the 2,300 troops stationed there.
Earlier this week, the Pentagon decided to extend the National Guard's deployment in D.C. by another two months.
