BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Some souped up hot rods are continuing their journey, after making a pit stop in Bowling Green at the NCM Motorsports Park on Tuesday, May 5. Tire Rack One Lap of America races a Grand Prix at eight different locations in America.
Solomon Rosenthal has been racing cars for over two decades. With his last race being in 2022, he was eager to share all his tips and tricks.
“Keep your eyes up, look forward, be smooth with your hands,” Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal is now an event organizer for Tire Rack One Lap of America.
The 3000-mile-long event has people driving to eight different tracks across the country, and then racing three laps.
“The accumulative of those three laps is what they’re scored off of, so the lowest overall time takes maximum points,” Rosenthal said.
By the end of the trip, the driver with the highest score will take home a trophy. What makes it tough to win, however, is that the drivers cannot change out their wheels. Meaning, the wheels they put on at the beginning of the trip will stay on until the end.
“So you’ve got to manage your track time and your road miles to make sure you’re getting the maximum out of each of those instances,” Rosenthal said.
Competitors come from all backgrounds. Some have been doing it for fifteen years, like Fred Edelman.
“This group is unique,” Edelman said.
While competitors, like Kevin Gleaton, are new to racing.
“It is an adventure of a lifetime, thrill seeking,” Gleaton said.
As for Rosenthal, he said it’s an excuse for him to get out on the track and burn some rubber.
The event is taking donations to help support people living with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Their next stop is Danville, Virginia.
