COVINGTON, Ky. — Visalia Baptist Church, Cornerstone Christian Church and First Baptist of Dayton are coming together to collect donations after devastating floods left multiple Kentucky communities to pick up the pieces.
From floating vehicles to damaged buildings, Rev. Ashley Beagle of Visalia Baptist Church said he knew he had to help
"We decided, Visalia Baptist Church, Cornerstone Christian and First Baptist Church of Dayton, we would all come together and we would use those three churches as donation stations," Beagle said. "As soon as we get that cargo van completely full, we're going to be ready to roll.”
Beagle recalled their first trip to eastern Kentucky after the 2022 floods, taking four trips with a total of 20,000 pounds worth of products trying to help families rebuild
“That's what's so heartbreaking," Beagle said. "Many of them are just halfway completed rebuilding from the last flood, and now that they are rebuilding ... everything they've done is now gone again.”
The churches are looking to collect items, including:
- Cleaning supplies such as mops, brooms and buckets
- Baby items such as formula and diapers
- Fans
- Drinking water
- Non-perishable food items
- Cash or check donations
Beagle said he understands the hesitation to donate but is urging everyone to help.
“Some people kind of wait and they'll say, 'Well, maybe in a week or two we'll donate," Beagle said. "The need is right now. Those people have lost everything right now."
Attorney General Russell Coleman, R-Ky., echoed the urgent need for donations.
“There's a great need for cleaning supplies," Coleman said. "To those watching that are wondering, 'What can I do to have an impact?' Certainly, we welcome prayers, but we also welcome donations to a known charity.”
Even the smallest donation can make all the difference, Beagle said.
“The quantity is not the big deal," Beagle said. "Of course, we would like to get all we could get. But if you just say, 'Well, I can only bring you three gallons of bleach,' bring them. Every little bit counts.”
