CINCINNATI — The first girders have arrived in Cincinnati and are being unloaded Monday to continue repairs on the I-471 repairs.
The girders were transported from Stupp Bridge in Bowling Green, Kentucky and transported to Ohio. Trucks transporting the girders backed across the southbound lanes of the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge from Kentucky into Ohio to reach the site.
Crews began to unload the girders on Monday morning, lifting them from the truck into place before being secured by ironworkers. There are two more girders arriving Tuesday and two more arriving on Wednesday for a total of seven girders.
More reinforcing steel will arrive Thursday.
The Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have adjusted traffic signals on both sides of the Ohio River to try and help alleviate traffic impacts. The Ohio Department of Transportation added a temporary camera trailer on Ohio's side of the Taylor-Southgate Bridge with several other Cincinnati city cameras incorporated into OHGO for drivers looking ahead while planning their journey.
Officials encourage those not heading into downtown Cincinnati to use I-275 east to pass the city around. Hazardous material loads are required to use this route.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reduced I-275 to one lane in each direction on the Carroll Cropper Bridge between Indiana and Kentucky.
