LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Homicides in Louisville did not drop significantly in 2024 compared to the year prior. The latest data from the city’s Gun Violence Dashboard reports at least 141 homicides, down from 146 in 2023. It’s unclear if the data includes shootings that occurred this week.
“Our organization, 2X Game Changers, welcomes any reduction in violent crime incidents,” said the nonprofit’s creator Christopher 2x.
2X’s organization caters to kids affected by gun violence. One program that continues to grow is Future Healers. Through a partnership with UofL Health, kids can see a new world of possibilities in the medical field. 2X says it’s one way of showing them there is hope for a better life.
“If you live in these neighborhoods, that’s being affected by these issues, you need the balance of hope and a purpose as it relates to trying to tough it out in the tough times that we’re experiencing,” 2X said.
In December, Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Paul Humphrey said non-violent shootings are down and clearance rates for those crimes are up 600%.
“The hope is that there’s an appetite with those who are involved in this behavioral issue, this problem, see it not so appealing,” 2X said. “And they start to peel off in different directions that it’s not attractive anymore and want to be a part of it.“
The longtime advocate recognizes change does not happen overnight. It is why his and other groups are investing heavily in the next generation, in hopes they never start down the wrong path in life.
