KENTUCKY — In Nov. 2024, the special committee tasked with studying and reviewing Kentucky's current housing shortage and future policy needs issued its final report, which identified key challenges and recommendations to address access and availability of housing to people living all across the commonwealth.
On this week's "In Focus Kentucky" program, we’re discussing efforts to tackle Kentucky's housing shortage.
Adrienne Bush, Frankfort-based executive director of the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky, joins this segment to share how HHCCK is providing housing programs and advocacy efforts all over the state.
"At the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky, we seek to fill gaps in some of our more rural areas of the state when there are resources," Bush said. "We do provide rental assistance and support with back rent owed and utilities for people experiencing homelessness, as well as connection and wraparound supports to the larger community to help people stay housed."
"We also operate the homes for all AmeriCorps and VISTA Program, which is one of the longest running AmeriCorps programs in the commonwealth, where we partner with communities across the state to place AmeriCorps members for terms of service to help address housing insecurity locally. And then lastly, we do policy work. We seek to educate people interested in housing policy, other lawmakers and elected officials on good, sound housing policy and housing solutions for the commonwealth."
