LEXINGTON, Ky. — Almost a year after Lexington Rescue Mission's expansion, nonprofit Isaiah House and employment service Jubilee Jobs are joining them for more services.
All three organizations are now working to help people in the same building at 535 W. 2nd St. in Lexington.
Kenneth McCalister said he started down a bumpy path in life as a young adult before making a change three years ago. He turned to Isaiah House, an addiction recovery center, for help.
“Amazed every day, man," McCalister said. "I just thank God that he saw fit for me to be a part of something.”
He now helps others as an adult peer support specialist.
“For me, when I came to the program, it was actual peer support specialists that made me want to stay in the program ... just having somebody that can maybe relate to my story just a bit," he said.
At the organizations' new hub, there's a medical staff offering wellness exams and Medicaid services. On another side of the building are counselors and social services.
“People can come and get individual therapy done for mental health and drug abuse," said Terina Berry, Isaiah House office manager. "We have a targeted case manager who can help with all needs such as food, housing, a job."
The community center is open for appointments and walk-ins, but it’s still under construction.
"The beauty of this location is we're going to have 120 seats now for people to sit and also a lot of places for them to wait," said Kim Livesay, philanthropy officer for Lexington Rescue Mission. "If we have more than 120 at a time, they don't have to stand outside."
