Several Kentucky organizations are collecting donations to help those affected, trying to help as many people as possible.

For about the last week, Collins Nissan has hosted a donation drive for survivors of the hurricanes. The idea came from a service manager who has out-of-state relatives impacted by the storm. He said he wanted to see if employees would chip in and help out.

“Obviously, as human beings, we feel for one another," said Shane Collins, Collins Auto Group general manager. "Being able to step up and come together and help any way we can was a no-brainer.”

The organization is looking for supplies like canned goods, bottled water, jackets, warm clothes, dog food and any basic needs. They plan to fill up as many pickup trucks as they can, and the items will then be driven down to support relief efforts in North Carolina.

Collins said they have just shy of 200 employees, and almost everyone has contributed without hesitation.

“A lot of pride and a lot of hope comes to mind, knowing that no matter what tragedy comes our way, whether it be locally or in one of our neighboring states, everyone’s going to pull together and help each other out," Collins said.

Jo’s Barber Shop in Jeffersontown is also collecting donations for hurricane survivors. They’re working with other small businesses and barbershops to help collect non-perishable foods, pet supplies, baby supplies, toiletries, medications and batteries.

“(There are) people out there that do care," said Kayla Bagby, owner of Jo's Barber Shop. "Even if we can’t come and we can’t help, we are thinking about you, we are praying for you and we’re there for you.”
