A 22-year-old Louisville man has been charged after a shooting outside of Pleasure Ridge Park High School on Sunday night that injured two youth, one of whom is in critical condition.
Damon Jerome Williams Jr. was arrested by Jefferson County Public Schools Police. According to the arrest citation, a JCPS police officer was told by witnesses that Williams was seen throwing two guns over the fence behind the visitors bleachers. The officer said he saw Williams leaving the area where witnesses said the two guns were thrown over the fence.
The officer arrested Williams, who said he brought the guns to PRP High School for his cousin and him. He said he needed protection because they are “from Victor Park neighborhood and people don’t like them.”
Williams is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The citation does not give any information about the shooting. According to the citation, Williams was arrested at 7:42 p.m. and LMPD said the shooting occurred just past 8 p.m.
PRP was hosting a football game against Male High School.
JCPS confirmed two youths were shot, one of whom is in critical condition. The investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department is ongoing.
School officials said gunshots were fired in the parking lot during the game. The game was suspended and people were ordered to leave the premises once JCPS Police and LMPD secured the area.
