LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hurricane Helene is impacting the southern U.S., and remnants are expected to hit Kentucky. But that hasn't stopped concertgoers from moving and grooving at the 10th annual Louder Than Life music festival in Louisville.

What You Need To Know

  • However, safety is a top priority

  • There are several ways to take shelter ahead in case of severe weather, said Chamie McCurry, general manager of Danny Wimmer Presents

  • The website said the festival is a rain-or-shine event

The festival said it's a rain-or-shine event on its website

"It’s wonderful," said attendee Cameron Lumpkin of Indianapolis. "So excited to be here; I get to see all of my favorite bands."

However, organizers said they're watching the sky and prioritizing safety as the remnants of Helene make their way to the commonwealth.

“We work with several different meteorologists locally and national 24/7 to be updated on what’s going on in the world of weather," said Chamie McCurry, general manager of Danny Wimmer Presents, which hosts the festival. "Everything we're being told right now is, yeah, we're going to rain tomorrow, and we have been working all week to secure the site to be ready for the rain."

McCurry said safety plans are already in place right now, well ahead of any potential storms.

“We have been working with all of our local vendors to secure all of our structures so we can be ready for the rain that looks like it could be hitting us on Friday," McCurry said.

“If you park or camp, we encourage you to seek shelter in your vehicle. If you are on foot or were dropped off, that is what (Kentucky Exposition Center) and Freedom Hall (are) here for. Their doors will be open, and they will be there. It’s indoors; it's safe."

The website adds to be prepared to rage in the rain and recommends attendees bring a waterproof jacket or poncho, boots that can handle mud and water or a Ziploc bag that can protect phones.

Louder Than Life runs through Sunday, Sept. 29.
