KENTUCKY — On this “In Focus Kentucky” program, we’re looking at infrastructure in Kentucky.

Lots of government-led transportation projects, ranging from widening roads to adding bike lanes, to repaving or revamping highways or even replacing bridges in some parts of the state, are underway right now or scheduled for the next two years.

State Transportation secretary Jim Gray joins this “In Focus Kentucky” segment to discuss KYTC’s role in building and maintaining federal highways and Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues.

“You know, what I find inspiring about opportunities today is sometimes looking through the windshield. It’s 100 times bigger than the rearview mirror, but when you look in the rearview mirror, I get out of a career in business and a career in economic and industrial development, and what I see today is a Kentucky that is just literally on fire in terms of its economy. It’s growing at a pace and with a level of vigor that I’ve never seen. What does that translate into for a Transportation Cabinet, Transportation Department of Highways? That translates into both the opportunity and the need, the requirement for efficient roads and an efficient highway system and an efficient river system, an efficient air system, airports across the state. So transportation, in all of its dimensions, is so relevant and so important today,” explained Gray.
