One nonprofit, the Family Enrichment Center, got more than $50,000. The nonprofit helps children grow during developmental stages.

Christine Thorn, who works at the center, said the nonprofit helped develop her children, who are autistic and nonverbal.

“If it wasn’t for the Family Enrichment Center, we wouldn’t have been able to get the diagnoses," Thorn said. "We wouldn’t have been able to work with the facility to get therapists in to help my son.”

Kosair for Kids, a children’s charity that provides needs for kids around the state, awarded the nonprofit $50,000.

“It’s our obligation to take care of children throughout Kentucky, but we can’t do it alone," said Barry Dunn, president of Kosair for Kids. "We have to partner with great organizations and individuals to make sure kids are healthy and safe."

The charity also gave more than $26,000 to another nonprofit, Kentucky Kids on the Block. Both nonprofits also play critical roles in ending child abuse and neglect throughout the commonwealth, which the grant is also supposed to help.

“We’re educating children, but we’re also trying to educate the people around them to make sure they’re getting the things they need," said Ashley Reynolds, executive director of Kids on the Block.

These are two of 100 grants Kosair for Kids will hand out across the commonwealth and southern Indiana. It will give more than $12 million total.

"This grant really allows kids to have a loving place, which is what they need," Thorn said.
