LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two days after multiple rounds of severe storms tore through the commonwealth, thousands of Louisville residents remain without power.

What You Need To Know

  • Severe weather Sunday left thousands without power across the state, including many in Louisville

  • Two days later many people are still without power

  • LG&E is actively working to restore electricity to those affected

  • Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg says the utility company hopes to restore all power by Wednesday night

Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said during a news conference Tuesday, LG&E crews are working to address the ongoing outages, and should have power on for all by Wednesday night.

Greenberg adds at its worst, over 40,000 were without power.

“Twenty-six locations we had reported where there were wires in trees,” Greenberg said. “50% have been cleared and are waiting on LG&E to clear the remainder.”

This was his advice for people who might know someone still without power.

“Please drive by, check in on them, make sure they are doing okay, see if they need to come over to your place or need help to find them a place so that they can have electricity and they can have everything that they need until their power is restored,” he said.

One person still in the dark is Aubrie Leo, who returned home after a vacation to the outage. Near her apartment complex, crews were actively preparing downed power poles Tuesday.

“So it was a complete surprise to us, and we were really disappointed that the Willows (Apartments) didn’t reach out to us about this event, and we wish we just received more from them,” Leo said.

She explains neither her apartment complex nor LG&E notified her the outage had happened.

“We lost over $200 worth of food, drinks,” Leo said. “Everything went bad.”

Leo is hopeful about having her power restored soon.

Gov. Andy Beshear,D-Kentucky, attributes five deaths to Sunday’s storms, including one man in Louisville. Strong winds and tornados left at one point hundreds of thousands powerless across several states.
