GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Republicans in State Senate District 17 made their voices heard on Tuesday, May 21, putting their support behind Matt Nunn, who garnered 67% of the vote.

What You Need To Know

  • Matt Nunn has won the Republican Primary for State Senate District 17

  • He beat opponent Julia Jaddock

  • Nunn received 67% of the vote

  • In November, he will face Democrat Kiana Fields

Nunn beat his sole opponent Julia Jaddock in the race.

“Very relieved, very happy and ready to get to work for the fall,” Nunn told Spectrum News Tuesday night.

Nunn is running to replace longtime Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown, who announced last year he would not be running for reelection.

Thayer supported Nunn in this race and was present at his primary watch party.

“So I’m going to pick his brain a lot, and I’m going to talk him and try to learn from him and I’m going to listen to my colleagues in Frankfort, I’m going to listen to my constituents,” Nunn said.

Nunn will face Democrat Kiana Fields in the November election. Fields ran unopposed on the Democrat ticket.

“I’m going to work really hard to represent people and I think when you do that and you work hard to listen and understand issues and provide solutions to problems, that helps,” Nunn said.
