LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Some Louisville residents are taking accessibility into their own hands and asking for the community’s help.

What You Need To Know

  • A Louisville resident wants to purchase accessibility ramps for people to rent out, and they're asking for community donations to make their mission possible
  • It’s being done through a partnership with the Louisville Tool Library

  • The fundraiser is already more than halfway toward its goal

T Gonzales has partnered with the Louisville Tool Library to raise $2,000 to purchase several mobility ramps that people can check out.

“We can't solve every problem in the world, but this seems like a tangible thing that we could do to make Louisville a little bit more accessible,” Gonzales said.

They said they came up with this idea for the city after finding out something like this already exists at Chicago's tool library. Gonzales thought, why not bring that to Louisville?

“This would allow people to be able to bring a little bit of accessibility to these places when there are events happening," Gonzales said. "I know I want my neighbors and myself to be able to access more spaces, and this is one way that we can do it.”

Gonzales posted this April 15 on social media, and they said within two days, they are already more than halfway toward reaching their goal.

The ramps, once purchased, will be available at the Tool Library for its members.

Lou Lepping, one of the library's co-founders, said their business works a lot like a traditional library. People check out what they need and then return it once they’re done for someone else to use.

“We want to do all that we can to make the rest of Louisville accessible, and the great thing about these ramps is that they're ready to go," Lepping said. "They're packable. You can just take them anywhere and have and add access to any building."

Lepping said since opening in 2022, their membership continues to grow, and they’re happy to see people support this fundraiser.

Those who would like to give can donate to Gonzales on Venmo at @ttgonzales1 or on CashApp at $tbgonzales. They ask to include the note “ramps” in donations.
