The recovery program known as Friends of Sinners plans to use the money to improve its facilities and expand its outreach, complete with new amenities such as beds and a computer lab.

“It’s going to be painted," said Jordan Wilson, Friends of Sinners development director. "It’s going to have the original awning, new doors. Literally everything, aside from the concrete walls, (is) going to be different.”

The property is 17,000 square feet. The program raised $1 million already but needed an additional $1 million to complete it.

“It was just literally like a miracle from heaven," said Joe Welsh, executive director of Friends of Sinners. "God said, ‘We’re going to finish it.’”

Its programs are held out of the older houses on Clay Street. However, Wilson said these are not up to par with its standards.

“Being in the houses that we’ve been in the past 15 years, you would never know that we are as professional as we are," Wilson said. "You would never know, from the outside, that the clients that we serve are getting nice treatment.”

The program helps those who struggle with addiction and wants to give them proper resources to help overcome their battles.

"On the outside, we’re finally going to match the level of care that we’re giving on the inside," Wilson said.

Renovations will take place within the coming months. By then, the program will be able to move into the new facility.
