During Col. Mark Roland's 30 years with the Air Force, he served in multiple leadership roles. Now, he’s helping operate the center where it collects items and packages them to help those who are on the front lines.

Roland said having items from back home around the holidays is comforting and important. It’s why he’s one of dozens with Military Missions in Lexington, who will be creating special care packages for troops.

“We centered this around Easter as a holiday that is normally a family holiday so that they kind of get that familiar taste.” Roland said.

For every box or bag packed, individually wrapped food items, hygiene products and clothing will be placed inside these boxes and sent to nearly 2,200 soldiers.

Now until March 1, donations like single travel-size snacks, men's and women’s socks and women's hygiene items are the organization's top needs.

Roland said they expect this year’s deliveries to be in this range, and he’s hoping to make a big impact.

“Knowing what it's like to be away from home and away from all those things that you're familiar with provides these guys just something to be remembered," he said.

So far, the community has stood behind them to show soldiers it cares, Roland said.
