Right now, in Albany, Kentucky, that issue's a water outage.

But one relief program has made sure to provide residents with the hydration and cleanliness they need.

Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief set up its helping-hand fortress at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a nonprofit that helps veterans.

"They have literally given us free rein of their facilities," said volunteer Nick Catron.

The organization set up its services after hearing about the state of emergency Albany is facing. The city is going through a several-week-long water outage caused by the recent weather.

“The worst part is not having a shower," said Albany resident Barry Thoman.

As a result, Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief and VFW volunteers have set up several showers, laundry machines and dozens of cases of water to help those suffering over the last two weeks. Volunteers have worked tirelessly; some have even worked for 20 hours straight.

"As long as the need is here, we plan to be here," Catron said.

These services have helped more than hundreds of people and families during this state of emergency crisis, Catron said. The relief program's mission is to help others under the name of Jesus Christ, which Catron said is an unfathomable experience.

"We see them from a moment of despair to smiles on their faces to laughter in their voice, and it’s just a humble blessing," Catron said.

The last day to use some of these services is Jan. 31. Details can be found on the VFW Facebook page.
