LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentuckians from all corners of the state converged on the capitol for the inauguration of Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky.

What You Need To Know

  • Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., was sworn in as the 62nd Governor Tuesday

  • It is his second term as the state's leader

  • Ahead of the ceremony, the Inauguration Day Parade made its way towards the Capitol

  • It was made up of groups and floats representing Beshear's first term

One of those in attendance was 96-year-old Peggy Dungan.

“Well, sun shines bright on our old Kentucky Home today,” Dungan said as she waited for the parade down Capitol Avenue said.

Dungan has lived in Frankfort her entire life, just a few houses down from the Governor’s Mansion.

She says she’s been to more Inaugurations than she can count and adds each is special in its own way.

“They’re all fun,” Dungan said. “Just seeing all the people getting out and enjoying the festivities.”

Tuesday’s parade featured several floats and groups representing Beshear’s first term. It included the marching band from Dawson Springs, which was hit by a devastating tornado nearly two years ago to the day, eastern Kentucky flood survivors, and health care workers.

“Really everybody just coming together and celebrating our governor and his family and just seeing all the people here and just to support him in everything that he does,” Sydney Hogan, another Frankfort resident, said.

Hogan grew up in the state capital as well.

“I didn’t get to come to his last inauguration, so I’m excited to be here today,” Hogan said.

Beshear secured his reelection last month, beating out Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
