LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thanksgiving is just days away and one Louisville restaurant is getting things ready for their annual Turkey Day meal kits.
A healthy serving of ‘giving back’ is on the menu.
Hot, yummy food is a consistent fan favorite at the Goose Eatery & Hangout. They’ve got people hard at work, especially during the lunch rush.
Chris Mike owns the restaurant. After 20 years at the previous spot, they changed locations and concepts about four months ago.
“I’ll tell you what. We’ve been very blessed. A lot of our regulars have followed us over here,” Mike explained.
One thing that has not changed is its annual Thanksgiving family meal kits. In the kitchen, it smells a lot like Thanksgiving. They have familiar favorites including stuffing. They’ve sold the meal kits for approximately 10 years now. It’s become a tradition.
“We just wanted to take a little bit of the pressure off of Mom to not have to cook all the time and maybe actually spend some time with the family. So, we’ll take care of the cooking side. You can take care of everything else,” Mike said.
The meal kits are $75 each and feed 5-6 people. Customers get a choice of ham or turkey. A choice of three sides, like macaroni and cheese, country green beans and garlic mashed potatoes and more. Over 150 orders have already come in ahead of Thanksgiving.
“You pick it up the day before. Heating directions.” Mike said.
Front of house manager Kara Hanlon says she’s been a part of the process since inception. One thing she says is unique is when people come in, they buy a meal for a family in need and pay it forward.
“Yes, I think it’ll happen this year! I know, I’ve already had a couple of phone calls. So I know it’ll happen,” Hanlon explained.
Server Teresa Jacobs served up Thanksgiving meal kits last year. She’s doing it again this year.
“I just enjoy helping people. It’s just in me. I try to give my customers the same thing I would want if I was sitting down at a table and when we pass out Thanksgiving meals, I want to do the same thing,” Jacobs explained.
Mike wants people to remember to be thankful for this holiday season.
