LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thousands of packages are being processed at the new UPS Velocity facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Velocity is a new state-of-the-art center developed to make shipping and product fulfillment much easier.

Employees are working with intelligent automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence to get customers their orders.

Team Lead Iliana Rodriguez says she likes the new advancements.

“They can be more faster, easier, precise and make everybody jobs better. And, and it is amazing because the customer needs to get all products and all orders on time,” Rodriguez said.

The technology is helping employees like Rodriguez work more efficiently and provide support for a diverse workforce through the Languages Across Logistics Program. 

Rodriguez added, “That’s part of my job, too, because we got a lot of people that’s not English speaking. It’s part of my job right there helping. Though they come in and they want to work with us with U.P.S and part of my job is to help translate, to train all these people on the right way and helping all the way to the process.”

Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., said advanced technology helps create a safer working environment and helps to bring in more jobs.

Beshear said, “What it means for the experience here is the heavy lifting that used to occur isn’t necessarily done by the employees or there’s other help to get it done. It means that you’ve got a good-paying job. You go home feeling good about it. You provide those opportunities for your families.”

Rodriguez is grateful for the facility. 

“You pull the boxes and they go right away to what they need, the locations, the hallways, or whatever they have to go and see the products faster,” Rodriguez said.

According to UPS, UPS Velocity facility can process 350,000 units a day, making it one of the most efficient facilities in the industry.

The $79 million operation is expected to create 500 new jobs.
