ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — BlueOval SK opened their new recruiting center in Elizabethtown on Tuesday and held a job fair to help fill some of the 5,000 jobs it says will be created by two electric vehicle battery plants in Elizabethtown.
59-year-old Robin Gronovius got to the BlueOval SK job fair just as it started. He came with a diverse background of experience.
“I was a fiance major in college. I went to college in outside of New York City. I was in the Army for 24 years as our armor officer and a multi-functional logistician and I started working for G.E. in 2012 after I retired in 2011,” said Robin Gronovius, a potential BlueOval SK applicant.
Gronovius currently works as a team lead at General Electric in Louisville, but a job at BlueOval SK would be a real time saver for him.
“It’s good for the community, but it’s also good for me because I have a currently a 90 mile round trip to go back and forth a little to Louisville, but down here I’ll only be down to maybe a dozen miles, less than 20, saves me about eight hours a week in a commute,” he said.
He met with recruiters and gave them a copy of his resume. He said he is looking for a position similar to what he does now at G.E., supervising portions of assembly or logistics handling.
“You know, it’s nice talking to these people. A great opportunity for me. I kind of fit in a couple of areas, both their production and their logistics and material handling and logistics part of the business,” he said.
The job fair was at Blueoval SK’s brand new recruiting center in Elizabethtown that opened Tuesday Morning. Hiring managers said they are looking to hire 5,000 people in Kentucky.
“Folks who are open to learning. You know, battery manufacturing is a new concept, a new practice here in the united states. So if you’re interested in learning and just growing your skill set, you’re going to make a great candidate with us,” said Tyler Stegall, talent acquisition manager, BlueOval SK.
Applicants have to be at least 18-years-old and some positions require certifications. As for Gronovius, he still has to apply.
“If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t ‘m fine where I am. I’m flexible being in the army for a quarter century, you’re constantly being moved given jobs that you want, or don’t want, must take,” said Gronovius.
BlueOval SK officials said the battery park construction is on schedule. The Glendale plants will be one biggest battery manufacturing plants in the world and battery production is expected to start in 2025.
