KENTUCKY — On this week’s program, we’re updating you on the latest news and updates from Washington, D.C. as there certainly is a lot to focus on.

Our guest for this episode is Kentucky congressional representative Brett Guthrie.

The Republican lawmaker has been serving as the U.S. representative for Kentucky’s 2nd Congressional district since 2009.

His district covers 20 counties and stretches from Owensboro, through Fort Knox and then eastern Louisville south into Bowling Green.

During this segment, Rep. Guthrie comments on his working relationship with new Rep. Mike Johnson (R-Louisana) who was elected speaker of the House in late October, after a 22-day deadlock that saw three previous Republican candidates nominated and then defeated on the House floor.

“Any one of them could move to vacate the chair. And it will only take one person to make the motion. Kevin [McCarthy] agreed to that to get their votes for speaker. The problem is, it was just destructive. When we were in the middle of trying to put together spending bills, trying to move our country forward. And then they did move to vacate the chair. So people need to understand that eight Republicans voted with 208 Democrats to take Kevin McCarthy out. And some people say, ‘Wait do you blame the Democrats for that?’ Well, I don’t think many Republicans would have come to the rescue of Nancy Pelosi. So it’s purely in the hands of the eight Republicans who decided to go down that path that actually threw us in chaos,” said Rep. Guthrie.
