LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky voters elected Republican Russell Coleman to be the state’s next attorney general, defeating Democrat Pamela Stevenson Tuesday night.

In his victory speech, Coleman said he was filled with gratitude, humility and determination.

“I promise you this: we will protect your family. We will defend your rights and we will back the blue,” Coleman declared.

Striking a bipartisan tone, he said he looks forward to working with everyone, regardless of party. He also spoke directly to the state’s commonwealth attorneys, county attorneys and law enforcement.

“This is your win. You won’t just have a seat at the table. We will focus on supporting you every day we serve in the attorney general’s office,” Coleman said.

Coleman will succeed outgoing Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who lost his bid for the governor’s seat Tuesday night.
