KENTUCKY — In the race to become’s Kentucky’s next state Auditor of Public Accounts, Republican Allison Ball is challenging Democrat Kim Reeder in the 2023 general election campaign. Ball is from Prestonsburg in Floyd County and is the current State Treasurer and will wrap up her second four-year term at the end of 2023.
Reeder is a tax attorney and former teacher from Morehead, Kentucky.
Ball beat her primary challenger in May to advance to her party’s nomination, while Reeder did not appear on Kentucky’s primary ballot because she ran unopposed for her party’s nomination.
The two candidates joined In Focus Kentucky to discuss their campaign to become the next State Auditor of Public Accounts, replacing current officeholder Mike Harmon, who cannot run for a third, four-year term, due to state law.
The state auditor conducts audits of state government agencies. Past officer holders have described their position as auditor, as the person who serves as a watchdog for Kentucky taxpayers — ensuring public funds are accounted for and used appropriately under state laws and regulations.
