LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The new bus tracker app for Jefferson County School District has around 10,000 downloads. The Edulog Parent Portal Lite app was launched yesterday to help parents and students track their bus.

What You Need To Know

  •  The Edulog Parent Portal Lite app was made to help parents track their child's bus

  •  The app has about 10,000 downloads since Tuesday

  •  Pollio said he hopes to get the last student home before 7 p.m.

  • Pollio recommends calling the 4-8-5-ride hotline if parents need help with the app

“The app will give parents and our staff even our students the ability to look at real-time gps tracking on our buses,” Kermit Belcher, the assistant superintendent of information technology, said.

Once parents download the app, they will need to set up an account and put in a registration code from JCPS.

“There is a registration code that families will receive and then the parent or guardian will actually be able to see in real-time the place where the bus is at,” Kermit said.

The app doesn’t show where the bus is headed next, only where it currently is.

“We use the light because it does not track the route. So it only shows where the bus is at that current time. It doesn’t say where it’s going, it only shows where it is at that time,” said Marty Pollio, JCPS superintendent.

Belcher said since there are around 600 buses, there are changes daily, but he said there is a team communicating that.

“Then we also have individuals that can actually send out specific messages in the app to those families. So, it may say bus 1719 will now be bus 2023 today,” said Belcher.

The district is continuing to work on changes to bus routes by adding and dropping stops. Last night, the last student was dropped off at 7:13 p.m. Pollio said he is still hoping to improve efficiency.

“Even with this new system, our goal is to get obviously before 7:00, our last student dropped off. We think we will get there, but with school ending 35 minutes later, we have to know that’s on par for a 35-minute later finish,” he said.

So far, Belcher said, the app has been successful even with limited testing.

“It was quick. It was a week’s rollout and something and that’s a large scale. So, obviously you would want to do that and take a few months and test it out. So, just to be able to do that in such a quick amount of time, I’m just really pleased that it has been successful,” Belcher said.

Belcher and Pollio are recommend calling the 4-8-5-ride hotline if you have any questions.

Pollio said they will continue to work on improving their timing. He said at fall break they will review how efficient they are and whether the current transportation plan will need a complete overhaul. A plan he said they are working on right now.
