LEXINGTON, Ky. — Family game night is getting a touch of Kentucky after Lexington was one of the lucky sites chosen for a locally themed Monopoly board game.

What You Need To Know

  • There’s a new Monopoly board game that features Lexington services, businesses and more

  • The Lexington model drops the traditional Atlantic City squares and replaces them with notable places around the city

  • Lextran, the city’s public transportation outfit, is featured on the board

  • Lextran’s buses have been en route for 50 years, making their latest stop special

The new Monopoly: Lexington Edition is available on Amazon, and it’s also sold through local retailers throughout the city.

Lexington’s public transportation provider, Lextran, even landed on one of the classic stops on the board that was released in July. Lextran is using the opportunity to showcase its dedication to the community.

Lextran and dozens of other nonprofits, services, historical sites and tourist attractions replace original places like “Boardwalk” on the new spin on Hasboro’s classic board game.

Lextran’s Emily Elliot says their mission to provide “mobility solutions” has never changed, and that inclusion has helped land them a stop on the board.

“The thought of moving around a board and moving around the city, if we could’ve traded the car out for a bus, we would do that,” Elliot said.

They say their presence both in the game and in reality is a familiar connection for folks who use their services.

“We just really love people being able to know each other and to work with each other, and there’s something comforting about getting on your bus in the morning, seeing that recognizable smile, and having that great interaction,” Elliot added.

Barron, a 10-year transportation service vet, says for some people, the bus is the best way to get around the city.

“We are the main reason that a lot of people get to go to the grocery store that doesn’t have a vehicle that can get to doctor’s appointments,” they said. “They can’t go visit family and things without us. You know, people who don’t have a car would not be able to get to where they need to go.”

Lextran says they have plans to engage with the community through future community gatherings this fall.
