LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just two days after the primary election, Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear has released the first video ad of his general election campaign.

  • He secured the Democratic nomination for governor this week

  • Beshear faces Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron in November

  • Sen. Gerald Neal says he's going to focus on the positive in his support of Beshear

“Kentucky is a special place. I see it everywhere I go,” the ad begins. “I will always show up to help the people of Kentucky.”

The ad, which discusses job growth, clean water funding and disaster recovery, has no mention of Beshear’s opponent, Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

The positive tone of the ad is the same one Senate Minority Leader Gerald Neal, D-Louisville, is taking in his support of Beshear.

“I’m going to be positive,” Neal told Spectrum News 1 Thursday. “We have a great leader in Andy Beshear and we are on a roll. He knows what he’s doing. He’s respected nationally. He’s respected across the commonwealth of Kentucky. He’s brought in unprecedented wealth into the community and the commonwealth itself.”

A Morning Consult survey released earlier this year shows Beshear is the most popular Democratic governor in America.

Wednesday House Majority Whip Jason Nemes, R-Louisville, wasted no time going after the incumbent governor.

“Andy Beshear has had three years of a lot of emergencies and ... hasn’t had anything bad said about him at all and we’re getting ready to tell the truth on him,” said Nemes. “Whether you’re going to talk about crime and drug overdoses, whether you’re going to talk about the economy or whether we’re going to talk about education, this governor has been a complete and utter failure.”

Neal points to Beshear’s record on the economy, including 5,000 jobs from a battery plant in Hardin County, and his handling of disasters.

“He was there,” said Neal. “He was strong. He was constant. He was persistent. This is the mark of a leader. It ain’t broke. It ain’t broke. And you know what they say — when it ain’t broke, you don’t try to fix it. You can’t.”
