LMPD announced on Wednesday that Wilt has made remarkable improvements since being transfered to Frazier Rehab on May 10.

"The therapist, nurses and doctors attending to Officer Wilt are impressed with his progress thus far," the Louisville Metro Police Foundation said in a statement. "Despite the challenges he faces on his long road to recovery, his dedication and hard work have yielded noticeable improvements."

Wilt's wakefulness has significantly increased since beginning his rehabilitation, the foundation said, highlighting that Wednesday is "the most awake he has been" since he was shot by the gunman.

The rookie officer's overall condition is "on the right track," but police said there are a few areas still being closely monitored as he progresses on the road to recovery.

"On behalf of Officer Wilt and our family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support he has received. The continuous support from the community has been instrumental in Officer Wilt's journey, and we are immensely proud of him," the foundation said.

Wilt was part of the police team responding to reports of a shooting at the Old National Bank on Monday, April 10. As police exchanged gunfire, Wilt was struck in the head and went down before the shooter was killed by police.

He was rushed to UofL Hospital where he underwent brain surgery and remained in their care until he was moved to Jewish Hospital.

Following the shooting, the foundation created a fundraiser for the injured officer. So far, it’s raised over $164,000. Every dollar raised will go to the Wilt family.
