LOUISVILLE, Ky. — St. Joseph Children’s Home is inviting people to an open house Tuesday night, May 16, to see the $19.5 million renovation to the historic Landmark Building.
St. Joseph Children’s Home has provided services for over 75,000 children since its inception. With the new renovations, they hope to serve even more.
“That’s the reason for this whole renovation. It is to provide more services for our children and serve a greater number of kids,” said Communications Manager Tiffany White.
Crews have been renovating the building for the past three years. Now, the organization is unveiling the changes.
The renovations include a new dining hall, foster care suite, therapy rooms, gymnasium and a new residential school for the children who live on St. Joseph’s campus.
Chief Advancement Officer Suzy Hillebrand was a volunteer at the St. Joe’s picnic for years with her family, so she’s always been connected to the organization. However, she said she got a newfound appreciation after starting to work there full time and getting to interact more with the foster children.
“Every child deserves to have a home and a family and a parent they know they can reach out to,” said Hillebrand. “For me, it’s important that those kids get some of what I was so lucky to have as a child.”
Hillebrand said it’s been great to see kids enjoying the new space, and she encourages the community to come out to see the renovations as well.
There is an open house on Tuesday night, May 16, from 6:15-8 p.m. At the event, people can take a self-guided tour of the building, meet some of St. Joseph’s staff and learn more about how the organization helps children.
“Our kids love to see when our community shows up on our campus to be here in a big way. We really look forward to seeing everyone at our open house,” said Hillebrand.
