GEORGETOWN, Ky. — At the Faith Baptist Church gym in Georgetown, girls can partake in the shopping spree they all dream of: “Project Prom Dress.”
Volunteers have collected hundreds of prom dresses. Each one hangs in wait for being selected to be someone’s choice for prom.
“The heart of it is really just making sure that a dress does not stand in the way of a girl going to prom this season,” said Michele Carlisle, executive director of the Amen House.
The Amen House has gathered dresses of all colors, designs and sizes.
“We have the dresses, so that is not a worry,” Carlisle added. “We just want to connect them to girls in our community who need dresses to go to prom.”
Over the weekend, Georgetown’s Amen House and Faith Baptist Church came together to make prom night a very special and affordable evening for young women across Scott County.
For Alexia Lowery, this was her chance to find her perfect dress that could make her prom a dream come true.
“I thought it would be a good thing to see people helping out and to get something and feel pretty today for prom, and I just felt like it helped me boost my confidence today,” said prom dress shopper Alexia Lowery.
A confidence that Alexia’s mom noticed the moment Alexia stepped out in her new dress.
“It was beautiful. It was gorgeous on her. It fit her perfectly,” Mafara Whaley said.
For Rachel Caudill, finding the perfect dress and the accessories to go with it was more than she could have hoped for.
“This is a great opportunity and a great blessing. I’m really thankful for this church, for letting me come here and pick out this dress, and it’s really wonderful,” she said.
Rachel’s mom couldn’t agree more.
“She’s really happy, and the people here have been so accommodating and down to the shoes and the jewelry and the accessories and even alterations,” Amy Caudill said. “We couldn’t ask for more. It’s been just wonderful.”
