“Actually, when I got to the store, my only goal was the guy that I bought it from had it about five years and the guy before him had it about five years,” Donna Claggett, owner of Skylight Country Store, said. “So to be the first female owner, my only goal was to outdo the men.”

Twenty-six years later, you can still find Claggett behind the counter doing what she loves. A small business that has had its difficulties over the years.

When Claggett saw the fire that forced the popular Bully Barbeque to close its doors, she was insistent on helping anyway she could.

“When I hear with Bully’s, I know what a devastating hit that is, especially with your business,” Claggett said. “I mean, it’s a family-owned business, and that’s their life and their livelihood and so I reached out to them to see what we could do.”

Now you find Bully Barbeque right outside the doors of the Skylight Store. A new temporary home for the team, operating out of a food truck for the time being.

“So it’s been an emotional rollercoaster,” Jessica Stinebruner, Bully Barbeque owner’s daughter, said. “We are glad to be serving the community. We are happy to be here, we’re happy to do what we love to do, but we’re going to miss that building.”

Still cooking up what some customers refer to as the “best barbecue” in Oldham County.

“We had access to a food truck to be able to go mobile, and it was probably two or three weeks until we were actually able to come out but it wasn’t long and that’s due to the loyalty of our customers,” Stinebruner said.

But Bully has big plans for the future.

“The goal is that they’re going to come inside and take over and bring their business in here to keep it going and bring the good stuff on this end of the county which I think will benefit everybody,” Claggett said.

Bully Barbeque hopes to build a permanent home inside the Skylight Country Store. The plan is currently in works, but for now Bully Barbeque will be operating in the food truck outside Skylight most weekdays if the weather is nice.
