NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — As we are expecting cooler temperatures this weekend, an auto repair company in Nicholasville has advice on how to make sure your cars are prepared.

What You Need To Know

  • Prepare your car for holiday travel this weekend and the winter weather

  • Checking your tires, oil and windshield wipers

  • Make sure your car is properly functioning before heading on the road

  • Have items to stay warm in your car in case you get stuck in your vehicle

Tim Morris with Car Masters says it’s that time of year again to make sure your vehicles are ready for the cold weather. “A lot of people have taken off this week early, and then with the weather coming in. We’ve been very busy getting cars ready to hit the road,” Morris said.

Preparing for holiday travel, Morris says there are some things you should look for in your car before hitting the roads. “Make sure that everything is functioning correctly. Don’t ignore the running lights on the dash. Don’t ignore low tire lights. Make sure the tires are inflated properly,” Morris said.

One key tip Morris says is to prepare to be stuck in traffic, or be able to sit in your car for a long period of time if need be. “Pack a blanket, something warm, pack some water, drinking water, snacks and just prepare as if you’re going to be stuck in traffic,” Morris said.

Driving slowly and increasing your distance between cars, Morris says the most important thing is being safe. “Slow pace, take your time and keep your distance between the car in front of you. I mean, that’s key because you know, make sure your stopping distance, because the roads are going to be hazardous,” Morris said.

Having a full tank of gas, checking oil and windshield wipers, Morris advises. Preparation is key and one of the best ways to stay safe while driving out on the roads this winter season.

Be prepared, pack the car, check the weather and drive slowly this winter season.
