LOUISVILLE, Ky. — School let out just over an hour ago, just days before Winter break, and there is only one place 18-year-old Brian Schramm would like to be; the bowling alley.

What You Need To Know

  • Brian Schramm is a senior at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville

  • He’s been on the bowling team since he was a freshman

  • This year he bowled a perfect game and an 800

  • Schramm plans to become a pro bowler after graduation

“Once I find my line, I can’t stop striking,” Schramm said.

Schramm’s senior year has been one of success. In October, he bowled his first perfect game, it was also the team’s first this season.

Schramm is on the Pleasure Ridge Park High School Bowling Team and quickly found a knack for the sport. Since picking up bowling as a freshman, he now averages over 200 each game.

His father, who shares the same name, witnessed that moment.

“I was so happy for him. I just needed to get in there and hug that boy, you know, because I was so proud of him as a parent. It’s just an awesome feeling to be able to see him do that. I’m not going to lie to ya. Probably got a little tear in my eye watching him do that,” Brian Schramm’s father said.

But the accomplishments don’t stop there. A few days before his 300 game, Schramm also bowled an 800 at a tournament over three games.

The team’s head coach Julie Nichelson says it’s an accolade you don’t see a high school kid do every day.

“800 is more rare than a 300, that is for three games and 800 series with no handicap is just extremely rare, especially in a kid,” Nichelson said.

Schramm says there are still more accomplishments he’d like to knock down before graduating in the spring.

“I want to see if I can get another one. Right now I really need to get a 700 series because I completely skipped past my 700 series and went to 800,” Schramm said.

After graduation, he plans on becoming a professional bowler, a goal that, with his skills, is absolutely possible.

Pleasure Ridge Park Bowling has consistently been one of the best bowling teams in its region. Schramm ranks 14th among the area’s top 25 male high school bowlers.
