BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is about fifty cents less than a month ago.
Out of our four major viewing areas, Covington has the highest gas prices at about $3.27 per gallon, while Bowling Green has the least expensive gas at $2.87.
“We are seeing significant drops, pretty much weekly now, and have been for the last several weeks.”
Lynda Lambert, spokesperson of AAA East Central says, the decline in prices has a lot to do with the price of crude oil, which is now about $76 per barrel, whereas in other parts of the year it was going for over $100 per barrel.
“That really has a lot to do with the price of gasoline because it accounts for 60% of a gallon of gas.”
Besides the prices of crude oil decreasing, Lambert says supply and demand are also playing a role.
“The supply we have of gasoline is up, so when supply goes up and demand goes down, prices usually go down as well,” Lambert said.
Just know it’s impossible to predict what gas prices will do in the future.
According to AAA, about 113 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2, 2023.
“The trend is, prices will continue to come down. Now, unforeseen things can happen like refinery issues, weather-related incidents,” Lambert said.
