LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare is expanding its services to better serve communities in Louisville. The health care system has added a third stop to its Mobile Primary Care truck at the NIA Center in west Louisville.
Featuring two exam rooms and an area to store medications, Amanda Deweese, the nurse practitioner of the Mobile Primary Care truck, says they’re able to do basically anything a normal doctor’s office could do.
“If you’re just not feeling well, you might just have a basic cold all the way to chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes,” Deweese said.
Appointments are not also a requirement, and walk-ins are welcome. Deweese says she’s happy to be part of a program that makes health care more accessible.
“We realized that the access to care has been very limited in some of the areas, and so we wanted to eliminate that and we wanted to bring health care to patients in the underserved areas,” Deweese said.
The program started around a year ago with stops in Okolona and Smoketown. A fourth location is expected to be announced early next year.
For Louisville resident Connie Crawford, who was waiting to catch the bus at the NIA Center, she’s excited to see more health care options in this part of the city.
“They needed some assistance down in the West End, and I’m proud of them,” Crawford said.
Crawford mentioned she would be interested in visiting the “hospital on wheels” for a check-up in the future.
Appointments can be made to see Deweese by calling (502)-559-4335.
