  • For nearly a decade, the Muhammad Ali center in Louisville has recognized people all around the nation

  • Young adults like Gitanjali Rao, are among the group of contributors upholding the center’s six core principles

Honorees can fall into several categories that recognize influential philanthropists for their empowering efforts toward humanity. The seasoned awards honor people who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to humanitarianism.

This year’s honoree’s included U.S. Chief Medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, Louisville’s Alice Houston and the World Central Kitchen as humanitarian of the year.

Six more awards are also given to young adults who represent Muhammad Ali’s six core principles: confidence, conviction, dedication, giving, respect and spirituality.

“Simply magical,” the high-school scientist, engineer, author and social activist Gitanjali Rao said about being among the six young honorees.

“In the past, in all my high school years as well, and especially being a senior in high school, it’s taught me a lot about kind of just exploring the world around me and getting the chance to look at the world around me while I’m young,” Rao added

Other groups partnering with the center were Louisville’s Humana Foundation.

The foundation’s newest chief executive officer, Tiffany Benjamin, and family said they are excited to be joining the center and the city’s future endeavors.

“We’ve just loved the center because it’s an opportunity to get engaged in our communities and we really love what it brings to Louisville and what it says about Louisville and its ability to really transcend and change the world,’ Benjamin said.

The awards were created in 2013 as a way to recognize and celebrate people from around the world.
