A break away from everyday life. Full of joy, laughter and baseball. One of Brody’s favorite activities.

“Because I get to play with my friends all the time,'“ Brody said.

11-year-old Brody has been a part of the Miracle League for the past 7 years.

An opportunity his mother, Sabrina Smith, says has been the highlight of their weekends.

“We found out Brody was a little behind. He was probably three when we got our first wheelchair,” Smith said.

The Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League is a baseball program in Lexington for both youth and adults with special needs.

“Playing an actual sport for him was not going to happen and he couldn’t get out of the way fast enough,” Smith said.

Kevin Haury with the YMCA, says they play on a turf field with each game lasting two innings. Each player has the opportunity to bat, ending each game in a tie.

“I call it controlled chaos. It’s a lot of fun, we do a little laughing a lot of times, we do a little crying, but they’re good tears, happy tears,” Haury said.

Providing a place for families to create relationships and bonds over their day-to-day difficulties.

“The family sometimes get to sit in the stands and take an hour off, which is not something they get to do most of their time,” Haury said.

An opportunity to be a part of a team, and enjoy a sport he loves.

The season for the Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League has ended for this year, but will restart again in the spring for both the youth and adult programs.
