“I get to eat with my friends and eat with special plates,” fourth-grader Sofia Deltoromejias said.

Students in all grades, at Natcher Elementary school in Bowling Green, were honored for living up to one of the school district’s seven habits of being proactive.

The hope is that other students will see what can happen when you “Do the Right Thing.” John Swack, the guidance counselor at Natcher Elementary, helped come up with the idea.

“So maybe they’ll see that and say ‘How can I be a part of that?’ and ask their teachers or us how they can be a part. And hopefully, they’ll see all the fun and excitement we’re having and try to do the same,” Swack said.

The seven habits are part of a larger Warren County Public School’s mission called “The Leader in Me”. The idea is to build self-confidence and skills to be successful leaders.

“It will be ingrained in them to be proactive and put other people first before yourself and follow the seven habits and that way as they go into middle school and high school and life,” Swack said,

Each month, teachers of every class will select a student who was an example of the habit of the month to continue fostering and teaching the importance of leadership.
