LEXINGTON, Ky. — The average price per gallon on regular fuel has dropped nearly $1.40 a gallon over the last few months nationwide. It’s a decrease that has helped many local businesses who rely on fuel, but some relying on diesel fuel have seen little relief.
What You Need To Know
- Unleaded fuel prices have fallen over the last few months
- However, diesel fuel has only gone down a few cents over the last few weeks
- Gas prices are still affecting local businesses
- Roberts Heavy Duty Towing has seen prices increase throughout their industry
Lee Roberts, owner of Roberts Heavy Duty Towing, said the impact of inflation is something he’s never experienced before.
“My guys, they’re suffering with what they have to pay for everything,” Roberts said. “I mean everybody, it’s affecting everybody. I just hope we get to the bottom of it, get back to some kind of normalcy.”
His employees and his company that’s been around for 35 years have all been affected. When gas prices reached their peak, Robert’s drivers had to work to save as much fuel as possible.
“There’s no running around looking pretty driving around when you drop a car. We park up pretty close to where we’re at and we wait for the next call. So we’re trying to save as much as we can,” Roberts said.
According to AAA, as of Thursday morning, Kentucky’s average for regular fuel sat at $3.25, a decrease of nearly 25 cents since last month. But Roberts says it’s diesel fuel that has only gone down a few cents in the same timeframe.
“We can’t run without it. We haven’t gotten anywhere. We’re nowhere near back to where we were. I don’t guess we ever will be,” Roberts said.
Besides gas prices, Roberts says inflation and supply chain issues have affected other parts of his business.
“Tow trucks are going up at least 30%. If you can get them, that’s the biggest issue. Parts have gone up 20 to 30%, If you can get them,” Roberts said.
His company will continue to do their best during these tough times, Roberts said. With hopes to see a greater decrease in gas and prices throughout the industry.
According to GasBuddy, over the last six months, diesel was at its highest at nearly $6 a gallon nationwide in June. As of September, diesel fuel now sits just under $5.
