KENTUCKY — The Commonwealth is facing a "critical" shortage of several blood types, according to the Kentucky Blood Center. The donation center is now bolstering calls for more donations to stem the shortage.

Summer is typically a time when donations fall, and Kentucky's supply has especially suffered this year, officials said this week.
As of Aug. 29, KBC officials said O-, B- and AB- types are all at critically low levels. To encourage more Kentuckians to take the prick, the Kentucky Blood Center is offering a few incentives.
Donors who register and donate before Sept. 10 can be registered to win a new SUV and tickets to a Jamaican vacation. Dedicated donors who join the Bleed Blue Donor Club will also receive a KBC Tervis Tumbler after making three donations between now and the end of January.
