LEXINGTON, Ky. — It’s a big week for University of Kentucky Football and its fans as their season opener is set for this Saturday against Miami University (Ohio). Kick off is set for 7 p.m. ET.
What You Need To Know
- The University of Kentucky will face off Miami University of Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 3
- Kick off begins at 7 p.m. ET
- Kroger Field will have new upgrades for fans, including bigger end zone displays
- Fans can expect fully digital ticketing and parking, and can access it through the UK Athletics App
UK Athletics said they’re working to provide the best possible fan experience at Kroger Field this year. Nearly 60,000 fans can fit into the stadium to cheer on the Cats.
One big transition fans will see is ticketing and parking permits have fully transitioned to mobile ticketing. The new app is called UK Athletics and can be installed on iPhone and Android devices.
People heading to Kroger Field Stadium will also notice another upgrade to the fan experience. New state-of-the-art and larger video boards will be at both end zones of the stadium. The video boards haven’t been updated in a decade.
The new ones will display a more crisp and clear picture. UK’s Assistant Athletic Director Tony Neely said these features are much needed as they head into a record-breaking ticket season.
“We’ve sold, getting close to 30,000 season tickets. That’s the most we’ve sold in seven years,” Neely said. “We’ve also sold out of our season ticket allotment for our students, which is about a group of 6,000 tickets. So we think we’re going to have some really good crowds at Kroger Field and encourage fans to come on and be part of the fun.”
Masks will be optional at Kroger Field, and there will be no regulations in place for social distancing.
As for the food — three new concession stands will be available including LaDonna’s Candy Kitchen, City BBQ and Empanada Queen. Four new food trucks will also be available outside of Kroger Field, including BHG, Salsarita’s, Kentucky Strong BBQ, and Kona Ice.
Companies including Kentucky Farm Bureau, Kentucky Select Chevy Dealers, Raising Cane’s and One Holland will also be available for fans with giveaways. For a full list of things you need to know before UK’s season opener, click here.
