LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Derby trainer Chad Brown is charged with obstruction of breathing after an incident in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Brown, who trained this year’s Kentucky Derby third place horse, Zandon, was arraigned Thursday in Saratoga city court. He is accused of pinning a woman to the floor and choking her. The obstruction of breathing charge is a misdemeanor. He pleaded not guilty and is expected to be back in court on Sept. 2. He didn't speak to reporters when he left court.

The New York state penal code defines obstruction of breathing or blood circulation when a person applies pressure to the throat or neck of another person or blocks the nose or mouth of that person.

Brown is a native of Mechanicville, N.Y. and lives in Sarasota Springs. He is a four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer and is currently the leading trainer at the Saratoga meet with 27 wins.
