“It feels amazing that people are even showing up in the rain and so if feels super good because we are here to serve the community rain or shine,” Rebecca Ward, founder of Clothe the West said.

At the organization’s celebration at Shawnee Park, families could get a bag of clothes and other supplies, there were also other groups there to help as well.

“It feels good to be able to serve folks and for folks to show up to be served,” Ward said.

One thing Ward made sure to include this year was space for young entrepreneurs to set up shop.

“Although it’s a free event, it gives them an opportunity to get their names out, for people to be able to see them, and for them to be able to talk to people,” Ward said.

“We chose nail polish during the pandemic because we couldn’t go to the salon as much and my mom is a cosmetologist and we are just following in her footsteps,“ Nalaijah said.

While the rain may have slowed things down, what hasn’t is Clothe the West’s dedication to giving back.

“If they need help come to us and if we don’t have it, I’m pretty resourceful and we’ll try to find who can have it or we will do a drive and make it happen,” Ward said.
