A sad day in Prestonsburg that Cheri Bower, Major of Audubon Park Police Department, says impacts more than this community.

“When one of us falls, we all fall and we have to support each other coming from Louisville, Kentucky to the other side of the state if we had to,” Bower said.

Bower, along with hundreds of law enforcement members, gathered in Floyd County to honor the life of Captain Ralph Frasure. He was one of three officers killed in the line of duty while trying to serve an emergency protective order in Allen, Kentucky.

“He does the same job as me, so it’s important for his family to know that he’s not forgotten and will never be forgotten and we come here to support them,” Bower said.

Frasure was 60 years old, and was captain of Prestonsburg Police Department and a school resource officer at Prestonsburg High School.

Many from the community and around the state showed their support. Some law enforcement personnel drove seven hours to attend Frasure’s funeral.

“The thin blue line is a family. It’s a brotherhood. When something like this happens, we all feel it. We all know the tragedy of losing a family member, especially in the police department,” Enrique Cervantes, with the Chicago Police Honor Guard, said.

Cervantes says there was no hesitation to make the trip to Kentucky to honor these three officers.

“We didn’t know Captain Frasure, but in a sense we all know, we all work for a Captain Frasure. We all stood side by side with the Captain Frasure. So, a seven-hour trip is nothing just to be able to come here, pay our respects and give him his hero’s farewell,” Cervantes said.

Cervantes and Bower say Captain Frasure will be missed in Floyd County, and says situations like this remind them of the sacrifice they chose to make daily.

The three officers who died will be buried in the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg.

The Prestonsburg police officer and K-9 handler, Jacob Chaffins’ funeral is Thursday along with Floyd County K-9, Drago’s ceremony on Friday.
